All HemingfordHub’s 140+ volunteers have been recognised as Highly Commended winners of the Hunts Forum Volunteer Awards 2020, for outstanding service to their community. The award was announced on Wednesday 2 December at the Forum’s Annual General Meeting, hosted via Zoom.

They were recognised for their role in building a caring and pro-active community. The Hub exploded into activity when the Covid-19 pandemic hit, growing in a matter of days to 140+ volunteers for its Good Neighbour scheme. They helped residents by shopping, collecting medication, walking dogs, organising tea parties, delivering hot meals, minor repairs, friendly phone and video calls and much more.

HemingfordHub was one of six highly commended organisations announced by the Forum, covering a variety of grass roots programmes to assist those who needed help, especially during the Covid pandemic. The Hub is very proud of our volunteers’ selfless dedication. We were asked to nominate one person, but decided that would be unfair as so many people had stepped up to help their neighbours. We were all in this together.

Also our vice-chair, Riva Elliott, has also become a Trustee of Hunts Forum.

ABOUT THE HUB

What has become the HemingfordHub was first proposed in 2017 as a test case for how lonely or isolated people in the village could be supported by the community care sector and NHS. The Hub was recognised as a community group and received funding in November 2019. Just as the team was preparing to launch the Hub, Covid-19 happened..
